GLOW IN THE DARK RUBBER: CASE STUDY HEIJMANS FAIRYTRAIL

Back to overview

20/02/2017 - Bekina® Compounds and the renowned building company Heijmans are closely working together for the development of the 'glow in the dark' rubber compound composing the 'Fairytrail' concept. By integrating little 'glow in the dark' elements into street tiles, a magical world is created. From fairylike playgrounds to luminous bicycle paths, ... nothing is impossible anymore. But ever wondered how it's made?

1. THE RAW MATERIALS: GLOW IN THE DARK RUBBER

Bekina® Compounds develop the glow in the dark rubber compound which creates the phosphorescent 'fairytrail' effect. The glow in the dark elements store the light at day and radiate it at night. This glow in the dark rubber compound is also available in a fluorescent version, which radiates beautiful colours both day and night.

2. INJECTION MOULDING OF THE GLOW IN THE DARK RUBBER

Bekina® Indurub specialise in custom injection moulding and as a sister company of Bekina® Compounds, process this 'glow in the dark' rubber compound to hard moulded products. These moulded pieces can be made in different colours.

3. THE RESULT: A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE

Once the moulded pieces are installed in the surface, a magical world comes to life!

A nice example of the Fairytrail concept are the street tiles that Heijmans installed in the Dutch city of Capelle aan den Ijssel. Tiles with an integrated QR-code can be scanned to get more information about city projects and events.

Another example is the bicycle path in Rosmalen. Here the 'glow in the dark' compound is not integrated in concrete street tiles, but in soft rubber tiles. Perfect for bicycle paths and playgrounds.

Technical expertise and a customer-centric approach make Bekina® Compounds a valued partner in the compounding industry.
